Thursday, May 19, 2011 – 2 and a half years from the introduction of number portability in Romania, the amount of ported numbers exceeded 500,000. The disparity between the fixed and the mobile ported numbers is relatively the same, 68% (i.e. more than 340,000 numbers) of the total ported numbers being mobile numbers. The amount of ported numbers has grown steadily since the introduction of number portability service, on 21 October 2008. Thus, more than 15,000 numbers were ported in the remaining two months of 2008 since number portability has become available, more than 180,000 numbers were ported in 2009, whereas, in 2010, the amount of ported numbers rose to 221,219. In 2010, the monthly average amount of ported numbers reached 18,434 and most telephone numbers (25,331) were ported in December 2010. Tuesday, May 17, 2011 – ANCOM has launched today, at its headquarters in Bucharest, an anniversary exhibition on the occasion of celebrating 20 years of modern radio spectrum management in Romania. The exhibition presents to the public a series of radio equipment items, documents and various materials illustrating the evolution over time of Romanian communications. Among the items exposed, you may find models of the last ebon telephone sets manufactured in our country, telephone used on the battle field during World War II, the first frequency measurement apparatus used by the Authority’s experts, as well as models of mobile telephones offered in Romania by the first operators of mobile telephone services and an impressive collection of stamps displaying the evolution in time of the telecom sector. Monday, May 16, 2011 – The National Authority for Management and Regulation in Communications (ANCOM) has elaborated and submitted to public consultation a draft decision on the radio frequencies and radio frequency bands exempted from licensing. The draft aims at designating the radio frequencies or the radio frequency bands whose use does not require awarding a usage licence – for certain types of applications, as well as at regulating the technical specifications on the RO-IR radio interfaces for the licence exempt applications.(Details…)
